　　海南岛上约有4万公顷椰树，其中有不少有特色的椰树。

　　海南曾经有4株椰子被请上了被誉为“国家名片”的邮票。那是1981年发行的“海南风光”，是第一枚以海南实景为主图的邮票。我国邮票设计家陈晓松将海南岛4棵椰树“请”进了《祖国风光》系列：金色的斜阳把海水映红，把天空衬成玫瑰色，在海边沙滩的背景下，4棵椰树横出画面，充满自然静谧之美。这就是大家非常熟悉的邮票“海南风光”。而这4棵椰树是摄影家林孙杏1979年5月在琼海长坡镇椰村海滨拍摄的。当年，很多外地人就是通过这枚邮票，第一次知道了海南的椰风海韵。

　　西沙群岛永兴岛上，有一棵非常著名的五子同心椰子树，国内许多明信片上都有它美丽的风采。1999年8月，一位在西沙守岛近七年的老战士，为表达对祖国美丽宝岛的热爱与眷恋，带着暑期到西沙探亲的家人在营区中种下了这棵非常少见的五胚椰子树。

　　在东郊椰林，还有一株非常有名的椰树，越过洁白的沙滩，斜着长到海面上。因为非常有特色，所以被拍成照片，并被挂到了很多地方的大厅墙上。

　　在以椰风海韵著称的海南，椰树大都是一枝独秀，很难见到分杈的椰树，但在文昌东郊椰子大观园里，却有一棵分杈的椰树。园子里显眼的地方，一栋独特的椰子楼，是当地传统的民居，楼旁一棵奇特的“三杈椰树王”，更是椰子公园的招牌。众所周知椰树从矮到高都是只有一根树干，而这“椰树王”却在高处分杈，两头树枝上都结着累累硕果，让人不禁感叹大自然的神奇。
